Trip Highlights:

  1. Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut: Begin your journey from Moshi and trek through the verdant rainforest to Mandara Hut, passing by the picturesque Maundi Crater for acclimatization. Immerse yourself in the lush surroundings and prepare for the ascent ahead.
  2. Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut: Continue your trek through the rainforest and into the moorlands as you make your way to Horombo Hut. Catch your first glimpse of Kilimanjaro’s towering peaks and marvel at the breathtaking views along the way.
  3. Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut: Take a day to rest and acclimatize at Horombo Hut, exploring the area and trekking up to Mawenzi Base Camp for panoramic views. This additional day will help you adjust to the altitude and prepare for the summit push.
  4. Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak Summit: Rise before dawn for the final push to Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Trek through the darkness with headlamps, reaching Gilman’s Point on the crater rim before sunrise. Continue along the Kibo crater rim to Uhuru Peak, where you’ll witness breathtaking vistas and capture unforgettable moments.
  5. Descent to Marangu Gate: Descend from Horombo Hut through the moorland and lush forest, enjoying the final leg of your journey. Arrive at Marangu Gate, where you’ll sign out and celebrate your accomplishment before returning to Moshi for a certificate presentation and well-deserved rest.

Itinerary

On the day of your journey you'll start from Moshi. Head to Marangu gate, for registration. Then you'll embark on a trek through the rainforest, towards Mandara hut. Along the way you can take a break to explore Maundi Crater for acclimatization. Enjoy dinner. Spend the night at Mandara Hut.

Trekking Time: 3 -4hours

After having breakfast you'll hike up through the rainforest. Keep trekking to Horombo hut. Along the way you'll pass through moorlands. Catch your first glimpse of the majestic Kilimanjaro. Enjoy dinner. Spend the night at Horombo hut.

Trekking time: 6-7hours

You have the option to stay at Horombo for a day and another night. During this time you can relax in the huts. Go for a walk up, to the Mawenzi base camp before returning to Horombo Huts. This additional day will assist in your acclimatization process. Provide you with insights, into the weather and altitude of the mountains. Following your break you will proceed to the Kibo Huts on your day to begin your midnight ascent to the summit.

After a nights sleep and enjoying breakfast you'll hike beyond the water stop to arrive at the saddle area a vast desert nestled between the majestic peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. Enjoy a dinner. Spend the night at Kibo hut.

Trekking time: 5-6 hours

Wake up around midnight. Have a breakfast before getting ready, for your climb to the summit. Make sure to bring headlamps or flashlights since you'll be ascending in the dark. It will be quite chilly until you start descending so layer up with clothing. Remember to take it steady (known as " pole" in Swahili). The objective is to reach Uhuru Peak before or after sunrise so aim to ascend before dawn. Traverse the scree or snow using switchbacks. Reach Gilman’s Point on the crater rim at 5,861 meters (18,640 feet) between 4 and 6 AM. From there you'll be greeted with views of the crater and its icecaps. After a two hour hike along Kibo crater rim amidst the snows you'll arrive at Kilimanjaros summit, Uhuru Peak where you can capture some memorable photos. Following your summit snapshots and soaking in the scenery descend back to Kibo Huts for lunch rest a bit gather your gear and proceed down through the saddle, towards Horombo Huts. Enjoy dinner there. Spend the night at Mweka Camp.

Hiking Time: 10-15 hours

After a nights rest you will wake up in the morning for breakfast. Then pack your belongings. You will begin your descent through the moorland, towards Mandara Huts. There you'll enjoy a lunch before continuing your journey through the lush forest towards Marangu park gate. At the gate you'll sign out. A vehicle will transport you back to the hotel where its time, for your certificate presentation and celebration!
