- Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp: Begin your journey at Londorossi Gate, driving through the picturesque village of Machame before reaching the trailhead. Trek through dense forests, encountering diverse flora and fauna, until you reach Forest Camp, your first campsite nestled amidst the trees.
- Shira Camp 1: Ascend through open savannah, with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the majestic Kibo peak in the distance. Arrive at Shira Camp 1, where you’ll be greeted by stunning vistas and the beginning of your high-altitude adventure.

- Barranco Camp: Journey towards the iconic Lava Tower, a striking volcanic formation known as the “Sharks Tooth.” Descend to Barranco Camp, nestled beneath the towering Barranco Wall, where you’ll spend the night and prepare for the challenges ahead.
- Summit Day: Begin the exhilarating ascent towards the summit in the early hours of the morning, traversing scree and glaciers towards Stella Point on the crater rim. Witness a breathtaking sunrise from Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, before descending to Mweka Hut for a well-deserved rest.

Itinerary
We leave Moshi for Londorossi Gate, which typically takes 4 hours. At the gate you'll need to complete entry procedures before continuing on to the Lemosho trailhead, which's an hours drive away. Once we arrive at the trailhead we have lunch. Begin our journey, through forest that leads us to the first campsite.

We follow the path out of the woods. Enter an open savannah with tall grass, heather and volcanic rocks covered in lichen. Climbing through the hills and crossing streams we arrive at Shira Ridge. Then descend to Shira 1 camp. The sight of Kibo, from the plateau is truly breathtaking.

Elevation (ft): 9,500ft to 11,500ft
We spent a day exploring the Shira plateau. We took a stroll eastward towards the glaciered peak of Kibo crossing the plateau that leads to Shira 2 camp nestled in moorland meadows by a stream. From there we proceeded to Moir Hut, a spot situated at the base of Lent Hills. The Lent Hills offer walking options making it a great chance, for acclimatization. Shira stands out as one of the plateaus, on the planet.

We journey from the Shira Plateau heading east along a ridge, towards the peak of Kibo. Our path then veers southeast towards the Lava Tower, known as the "Sharks Tooth." After passing this landmark we reach a junction leading us to the Arrow Glacier at 16,000 feet above sea level. Descending from there we arrive at the Barranco Hut situated at 13,000 feet. Here we take a break savor dinner and spend the night. Despite ending our day at an elevation to where we began this day is crucial for acclimatization. The campsite is nestled in a valley, beneath the Barranco Wall.

After having breakfast we depart from Barranco. Proceed along a ridge passing by the Barranco Wall until we reach the Karanga Valley campsite. Todays journey is brief intended for acclimatization purposes.

After having breakfast we depart from Karanga. Reach the intersection that links with the Mweka Trail. We then proceed towards the Barafu Hut. Upon reaching this point you will have finished the South Circuit providing perspectives of the summit. Here we set up camp take a break have dinner and get ready, for the summit day. From this spot you can catch sight of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Elevation (ft): 13,100ft to 15,300ft
In the hours of the morning around midnight, to 2 am we push forward towards the peak nestled between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. We set our course in a direction trudging through scree towards Stella Point on the edge of the crater. This stretch proves to be both mentally and physically demanding.
Upon reaching Stella Point at 18,600 feet we take a break. Are treated to a breathtaking sunrise if weather permits. From Stella Point expect terrain as you make your way up for an hour towards Uhuru Peak—the highest spot on Mount Kilimanjaro and in all of Africa. Those who hike faster may witness the sunrise from this summit.
After reveling at the peak we begin our descent down to the Mweka Hut campsite with a lunch stop at Barafu, along the way. Gaiters and trekking poles are recommended for navigating gravel during this descent. Mweka Camp is nestled in the forest region where mist or rain showers can be anticipated later in the day. As night falls we savor our mountain dinner before retiring for a deserved rest.

Hiking Time: 7-8 hour
Elevation (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft)
After having breakfast we will proceed with our descent, towards the Mweka Park Gate to collect our summit certificates. The lower areas can get quite damp and muddy so it's advisable to use gaiters and trekking poles for assistance. Wearing shorts and shirts should suffice,. Its an idea to have rain gear and warmer clothing on hand just in case.
At the gate we will continue for another hour until we reach Mweka Village. A vehicle will be waiting for us at the village to take us back to the hotel, in Moshi.
